“this water tastes good!!”
If that was incoherent enough let me explain it further. We were watching Wipeout (I don’t usually watch TV, Wipeout is pretty much the only TV show I “watch” because I download everything else) when we saw a horendous (I don’t speak for her) advertisement for Channel Nine’s new game show program titled “Hole in the Wall”.
Does this ring a bell?
If it doesn’t, this is sparta Japanese (no suprise). This is hilarious.
“Hole In The Wall” isn’t the only unoriginal TV show, I’m talking about Australian TV in general. Truth be told, very few Australian TV programs ever hold my interest and I don’t think that it would be a far cry to say that this is the same for a part of our population and so of course we outsource. Australian channels import shows from other countries, we import concepts (and trash them sometimes) from other countries and while we’re not saying they are completely “Australian”, those shows are sadly the popular ones.
This is probably one of the main reasons I tend to download programs I can’t get here or watch Asian things. Australian TV schedules are (most of the time) hecka boring (we also don’t broadcast a lot of the GOOD shows).
Call me unpatriotic, but I am. Australian TV being bad aside, let’s get to the focus of this post.
I would never write a post about Australian TV unless prompted and Human Tetris surely prompted this reaction. I’m not against appropriating good Ideas to make better programming for us. The biggest concern I have is with the execution and on a scale of 0 to -100 how badly it will be executed. Now have you seen the shithouse Big Brother version (the Big Brother version seems to be a big rip off though, this seems to be a direct adaption which is bettter)? I’m all for humanity but Japan seems to think that humanity exists outside of TV, blame me for being selfish but I don’t give a crap, I agree.
Now what I want to see is:
- Super speedy boards
- Fucking impossible poses
- Crazy team stunts
- Those weird costumes (which we have, YAY)
From previews I think we’ll get those things to a certain degree so execution seems passable but the next problem is how it will keep up interest.
I know that Australia isn’t the first to “copy” the program but do you think I understand French (or whatever the hell that language was)?
I wouldn’t be suprised if the program got axed after 1 or 2 seasons seeing as how the novelty of the whole thing would wear off very quickly. Japan knew well and kept this as a recurring segment that came once in a while, not as the premise for a whole program. That once in a while was good enough for most people but I’m afraid that the whole novelty of this game is going to disappear before interest is generated.
The good thing is at least Channel Nine is airing this. If they’re crazy enough to pick up Wipeout then human safety must not be very high on their priorities list but this still does not ignore the fact that maybe Channel Nine are so desperate for viewers (which I don’t see why, they’ve been the highest rated Channel in Australia for YEARS if I recall correctly) they are willing to settle for an internet phenomenon.
So I will be catching the first episode and probably no more than 1 or 2 after that because I don’t want it to kill my love for the Japanese version (featuring Ishibashi). The producers have stated this themselves but I hope that the humour is not lost in translation.
Why did I write a totally TL;DR rant?
Because I’m a weeaboo
HAHA! Me and StupidYen Theresa were talking about how we could make our own version. Like get massive boxes of cardboard and have two people hold it and run at the person who has to jump through! And it’s cardboard so it won’t necessarily rip of more like jsut break/bend really badly! BWAHHA! I’m intesrsted to see this. Man channel 9 is so desperate for viewers! BUT OMG! I can’t believe I missed Wipeout! ARGHHH….
^Evee
HAHA, or get like people who do wood tech to make boards for us (they will give us splinters), peru day idea?
LOL
screw the splinters, do you know how much it’d hurt of you didn’t make it through? It’s like being hit with a wooden bat or something! BWAHAH..
Ah i ttly agree with you in this post! Though there is something that i’m a bit iffy about, and i’m not sure if you were using sarcasm here, but you said
“…the fact that maybe Channel Nine are so desperate for viewers (which I don’t see why, they’ve been the highest rated Channel in Australia for YEARS if I recall correctly)…”
Now idk, but last time i checked, channel nine was absolute shithouse! oh well except for (excuse the partial advertising) two and a half men (kekekeke, i know how much you hate it mooray) and ladette to lady.
Yes.. but only time shall tell whether this show will be failboat or actually entertain us like the wonderful wipeout does… Thank god people understand our need to watch human fail.
And yes, tetris IS srs business.
Ooh, runs to wikipedia,
No I was right, except for 2007 and 2000, Channel Nine has been consitently ranked #1 in terms of viewers for the past 10 or so years.
AND TWO AND A HALF MEN IS AN AWFUL SHOW.
LOLS
hahaha wood… nice idea *eek*
i agree with mooray. first few shows then NO MORE
it would kill human tetris like no tomorrow XPP
Even though I just told you on msn. I FINALLLY BEAT TETRIS DS…during WYD.
Well I’m not that surprised with Australian TV stealing shows and re making them. It’s like about a new idea going around on CR about Zac Efron playing Kira in a remake DN LA. Douch Bag.
Actually, this reminds of that time when you and i were about to write into channel 10 when we saw BB TRY/ATTEMPT to re create human tetris during one of the FNLs. I wish we did write in. Cause I’m disapppointed in any free channel that tries to copy asian stuff and purely fail at it.
They should make Human Tetris into a real video game — NES original
